Hi guys im studying law at nottingham and wanted to know if family law would be better or company law…is there any law students or lawyers on here…please I need ur help!
Company law generally pays better but Family law is generally more gratifying. It depends really on what your going to go for, like if you chose company law are you going to do paperwork and just make sure the company is legal or are you going to fight or defend companies that do environmental harm? With the family law would you do divorces or adoptions or things along those lines?
Better?…For what???
Are you seriously saying there is no one at Nottingham University that can give you career guidance?

Define "better" and you still won’t get an answer because it will depend on you and your personality.

It depends what you feel more suited with, try asking people at your uni/college about it.. :]

i hate families i would go for company , surely you are more interested in one than another?

I guess it depends on the individual. Company law for the ambitious ones and vice versa.

Are you really studying law?
If you are then you options would be something like contract law or employment law, common law or statute.
If you don’t know those differences it worries me not only about yourself but also about Nottingham University!

The ‘best’ family lawyers have links to companies like Blackwater and Sabre watch and can perform miracles for their millionaire clients – just ask the former Lady McCartney what can happen – if one accuses them of underhand tactics one is then very easily convicted of insanity. If you have any tiny sliver of moral justice in your fibre you will steer clear of high powered family law.
Company law is about dirty tricks and most take over bids involve these. At times you will work 48 hours on the trot without sleep and if you think you can hack it then by all means go for it – but remember it is a macho environment in which only the touch survive as they try to out macho one another.
Go for an easy option which lets you enjoy a little family life with a clear conscience – try conveyancing.

Depending on what ‘better’ means to you, it’s actually irrelevant in terms of a law career, if that’s what your driving at.
Most solicitors offices or barristers chambers could not give a monkey’s nuts what modules you did at University in Law. You learn so little real law at Uni it’s almost an irrelevance whether you study Law or Greek.
But, if you might want to practice as a corporate lawyer some basic grounding CL is no bad thing. If you might want to practice in Family law the modules you do are completely irrelevant, family law is more about applying basic principles to a set of facts.
